Have you ever noticed how much time we spend trying to make sense of the world through our thoughts and emotions? It can sometimes feel like we are always in our heads, a non-stop barrage of thoughts. especially us sensitive souls who overthink everything. But what if the key to unlocking peace isn't found by analyzing our thoughts, but instead by listening to the wisdom of our body?
The simple truth is that old emotional baggage, the echoes of past hurts, and that nagging feeling that you're meant for more—they aren't just old memories floating around your mind. They are energy, real and tangible, stored right within your physical body. This energy has been patiently waiting for the feeling of true safety to move and finally be released. Finding peace can be as simple as gently bringing your body to a place of safety and allowing the wisdom within you to release this stored energy through a simple, body-centered approach.
My Night with an Out-of-Control Nervous System
I recently experienced the incredible power of the nervous system firsthand. That evening, I had participated in a powerful women's circle, leaving the ceremony holding a beautiful, intoxicatingly scented rose, feeling completely connected and peaceful. I was in such a state of complete peace as I got ready for bed, I thought to myself, "I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight." I slipped under the covers and was just about to turn my phone off when my intuition nudged me to check my phone—going against a golden rule I teach others to avoid tech at bedtime.
Sure enough, there was a message, and it was from a person who was unstable and angry. This individual, someone I had never met and who knew nothing about me except the little he found online, had made assumptions about me, followed by a threat. Then, learning a few minutes later that this person owned guns and had been seen in my neighborhood earlier that day, my calm state vanished.
My nervous system was instantly hijacked. I tossed and turned for much of the night, my sympathetic system running on high drive. I half-heartedly tried using some deep belly breaths to calm myself down, but the overwhelming thoughts and the fear would surge once again. This is the power of a nervous system activated by perceived danger—it doesn't matter what rational thoughts your mind offers; it responds purely to the fear signals your body feels.
The solution wasn't affirmations or talking it out (in fact, the more I spoke about it, the deeper I went into an anxiety spiral); it was physical. I took a moment to check in with the wisdom of my heart, and heard loud and clear that what I needed was a nervous system reset. That night, I didn't try to think my way out of it; I knew I needed physical practices. After attending a gentle restorative yoga class and then a sound healing session, I came home and practiced breathwork. The combination of this gentle, body-centered work brought my nervous system back into a calm, regulated state. I slept like a baby. This was a reminder that the wisdom and release of fear lie within the body itself.
And here is the beautiful part: I know that feeling of deep, gentle release is absolutely waiting for you, too.
What that night showed me is the profound truth: the wisdom to heal, the capacity to finally let go of the emotional baggage that has been once held you back, lives not in your head, but quietly in your body.
This is the whole promise of simple, body-centered healing. It's not about finding a quick fix; it's about building a quiet, devoted partnership with yourself—one rooted in self-trust, gentleness, and deep clarity.
If you are tired of repeating the same patterns and feel your heart whispering that it's time to gently discover your inner truth, remember this:
You don't need to struggle through another complicated, generic solution. True safety and lasting healing happen when the approach is tailored specifically to meet your sensitive nervous system exactly where it is. Finding the right gentle practice—whether it's restorative yoga, sound healing, or something that has been life-changing for me, like trauma-informed breathwork—is the key to finally let go of the energetic heaviness. Your right practice may or may not be breathwork, but the key is finding the one that works for your body.
I sincerely hope you find the practice that brings you to a place of peace. 🩷
Thought to Remember:
"Healing begins the moment you stop asking 'Why?' and start listening to 'Where?' in your body."
